Bergen RC club - for those who like to play

Hello everyone and welcome to the pages of the Bergen RC club. We’re a small group of enthusiasts who love playing with anything remote controlled. Members of the Bergen RC club actually range from beginners, who are casual RC users that use shop bought RC toys, to those who are more involved with the hobby to the point that they are making their own remote controlled boats, RC cars, trucks, tractors, you name it. Bergen RC also has special interest groups that, for example, focus on finding the best $300 drones for photography. Membership ranges from 10 years old, all the way up to 60+ years old. There’s moms, dads, kids, grandpas, everyone is welcome in our little group. Bergen is also proud to be a host of the tri-county RC Wisconsin championship, where Winnebago, Sheboygan and Ozaukee counties send their best RC pilots to determine who’s the fastest, or should I say the most accurate. That’s just some of the fun activities that the club is involved in.

This video down below is a great example of how a miniature construction site themed RC setup looks like. Notice that the site is complete with actual noises of trucks and heavy construction equipment backing up. Isn’t that neat?

Bergen RC club beginnings

Bergen RC club was formed all the way back in 2011 by an initial group of about 10 guys and gals who were located in a small town of Bergen, Wisconsin. That’s where we got the idea for our name. Name of our club ended up being a little bit unfair towards some of the newcomers to the club, because as the membership grew we started getting people from towns in nearby counties (like Winnebago and Ozaukee). By that time we sort of gotten used to the club being name Bergen RC, so we just kept the name. Interests of our club members are varied. Some people like remote controlled boats, some planes or gliders, others like to setup entire miniature worlds with specific themes, like constructions sites. There’s those who like drones that can go to the long distances, and are always on the lookout for those.

We've got whatever floats your boat

Picture on the right is unrelated to the title of this paragraph. Just kidding, 🙂 . We were aiming for a pun, and we think that we’ve managed to make one, even if it’s a bad one. What we’re trying to say is that anyone can join our club. Currently we have around 1100 members overall, who are spread out in various chapters. Yes, we’ve actually reached a point where there are chapters for each interest group within our club. Due to the shear number of members that we have, we actually don’t all meet up at the same time except when we organize various competitive events.

Bergen RC is also working on new chapters that are focusing on new types of toys, 🙂 . For example there has been an increased interest among some of our members to get together and talk about electric scooters. These are not exactly remote controlled, but they are pretty close to it. We are seriously looking into making a small group, a chapter as we’ve already mentioned, that’s dedicated to sharing ideas, getting together and just having fun on these little buggers.

No, the swiss are not invading, this is just an RC boat from one of our meetups. They look very realistic.

What does Bergen RC has to offer?

Community and comradeship

Initially, when the club had fewer members, we would frequently have meetups that included the entire membership getting together, with their RCs, and just hanging out. With the sheer number of members that we have now, which are scattered across several counties, individual chapters have their own meetups. The club itself meets twice a year. It’s a whole shindig for us, with lectures, workshops, competitions, you name it.

Teaching people

This tacks on the previously mentioned community aspect of the Bergen RC, but teaching people is something that is an obvious side effect of membership in a club like ours. There is always someone who knows more than you, and is willing to teach you about how to go about and make your very own custom RC boat. If you join us, we can help each other become better, learn new things and finish cool new projects.

Competitions and tournaments

Every time that the whole Bergen RC club meets and gets together we organize various competitions and tournaments. This is really nothing special. It’s just something for us to have some fun. In other words, the competitiveness takes second place to fun. It’s sounds a bit lame, but what’s important is to participate, mingle, and spend time with other people. Drone racing, boat racing, realistic RC model competitions, you name it. There’s plenty of interesting events for everyone to participate in.

Reviews and advice

Last but not least, what we’re going to try and do here is write reviews and give advice to people who are interested in buying remote controlled toys, and other similar gear and gadgets. This is something that we have a lot of experience in, so we think that we can really help people who are not sure what they might be interested in. Many seem to think that you need to spend a lot of money to buy quality, but that’s not exactly true. You’ll see if you decide to read some of our recommendations that when it comes to RC devices and gadgets, you can have your cake and eat it too.
